Google Summer Blaze

Google Developer Group of Dronacharya College of Engineering organized a one day workshop “Google Summer Blaze” on 29th May 2015. GDG provides a platform where programmers and learners hangout to learn and impart knowledge about various Google technologies. A total of 60 students from 1st year along with 10 organizing team members participated in the event. Out of these, there were 5 students from KIIT, Bhondsi; IEC CET, Greater Noida andGovernment Polytechnic Manesar who attended the event.
The workshop was exclusively designed for 1st year students to give them a glimpse of GDG and its activities along with Android app building, Google Technologies & its various products from Google Search to Google Cloud. The objective of the event was to introduce them to Google Developer Groups (GDG) and GDG Dronacharya College of Engineering and to give them a platform to explore the opportunity of being a team member.
The event commenced with a brief introduction on Google Developer Group by the team members. The first part of the event covered the aspects of various Google products. The sessions were taken by various team members each describing a different Google Product as follows:-
1. Session 1: YouTube Session by Anshul Patro (Student ECS Dept.)
The session started with a brief introduction on YouTube, how the service was introduced to the Web, its various standards, uploading schemes and quality print. Various stats and how YouTube is trending now-a-days. YouTube channels were introduced to the students and finally YouTube Rewind 2014 was played.
2. Session 2: Gmail Session by Akansha Marwah (Student ECS Dept.)
Akansha started out with a brief introduction on Gmail , the history of Gmail and how it can be integrated with other Google services. The session also included the various features of Gmail and its two new version Gmail Blue and Priority inbox and how they work. Students were well introduced with these topics through interactive animated videos.
3. Session 3: Play Store Session by Ravi Ahuja (Student ECS Dept.)
Ravi explained the Play Store, its market, various things one can do on Google Play. He also introduced some basic and popular apps on Google Play Store. Later on the students were introduced about the Play Books and how student can be benefitted from it.
4. Session 4: Google Plus Session by Shweta Saini (Student ECS Dept.)
Shweta introduced Google+ and its various services like Google Events, Hangout on Air, Google Pages etc. Various terms like circles, streams, photos and user settings were also explained. She mentioned the benefits of using Google+ over Facebook.
In the Android Code Session the participants were taught Android coding with examples and hands-on app designing. The students participated enthusiastically and were able to successfully execute the Android Application.
After the event, over 45 students joined Google+ and followed GDG Dronacharya College of Engineering on Google+ and Facebook page. Various students followed the YouTube channel.
The team received tremendous positive feedback on Google+ and online feedback form for the event has been shared with them.
