Webinar on "Inside the Mind of a Hacker: How to Think Like Them?"
15th March 2025
Cyber Security Club, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized a webinar on "Inside the Mind of a Hacker: How to Think Like Them?" on 15th March 2025. Mr. Rohan Mathur (Senior Security Analyst, SIEM Intelligence) was the eminent speaker of the webinar. 120 students of first, second and third year of IoT, CSIT & ECS Departments attended the webinar. The session aimed at understanding cybersecurity from an attacker's perspective. The session provided valuable insights into how hackers identify and exploit vulnerabilities, helping security professionals adopt a proactive defence approach.
The speaker shared their experiences in the field, providing credibility and context for the discussion. The webinar focused on the mindset of a hacker. The speaker explained how attackers approach systems differently than defenders, emphasizing the importance of thinking like a hacker to effectively secure applications and networks.
The webinar detailed the methodologies used by hackers to break into systems. Topics covered included social engineering attacks, exploiting weak passwords, bypassing authentication mechanisms and identifying misconfigurations.
A live demonstration was conducted; showcasing the step-by-step process an attacker follows to assess an application for vulnerabilities. The demo included scanning and reconnaissance techniques, identifying common vulnerabilities (e.g., SQL injection, XSS, insecure APIs) and exploiting weaknesses to gain unauthorized access.
Benefits/Outcome: The webinar provided a comprehensive understanding of how hackers think and operate, equipped attendees with practical knowledge to improve security defences. It emphasized the need for a proactive approach in cybersecurity and continuous learning to stay ahead of potential threats.
