"Opportunities and challenges in implementation of AICTE Internship Policy"

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India organized a workshop on "Opportunities and challenges in implementation of AICTE Internship Policy" at AICTE Auditorium, New Delhi on 29th September 2019 to discuss employability and need of internship policy. Mr. Amar Saraswat, Assistant Professor, IT Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the workshop.
The inauguration ceremony was done by Mr. Dharmesh Kumar Dewangan and Mr. Anant Jakhmola from AICTE. Then Prof. R. Dahiya, Former VC, DCRUST discussed employability and the need of internship. He said internship enhances the employability skills of the graduating students. Prof. Dahiya discussed Internship bridges the gap between the classroom knowledge and the real life situations, and provide opportunity to students for developing workplace skills. He said internship plays a crucial role in learning strategies like time management, multitasking etc. in an Industrial setup and applicants who list internships in the curriculum vitae, increases the chances of getting hired over those who does not. Prof. Dahiya also said that graduates must highlight all the accomplishments and skills one learned during the internship.
After that, AICTE Quality Initiatives were discussed by Prof. Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE. He also discussed various disciplines covered in the modal curriculum of undergraduate courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, IOT, Robotics, Quantum Computing, Block Chain, Data Science, Cyber Security, Design, AR / VR and 3-D Printing. Then, Mr. Anant Kasodekar, Alumni of IIT Bombay gave his presentation on Internships: A plethora of opportunities.
Then, Margdarshak and Margdarshan Schemes were discussed by Dr. Ajeet Singh, Assistant Director, AICTE followed by the presentation by Prof. Shital Kumar Rawandale, in which he discussed Issues and Challenges in implementation of AICTE Internship policies.
Next, AICTE Internship policies were discussed by Dr. Neetu Bhagat, Deputy Director, AICTE, in which she discussed steps of establishing, maintaining and Fostering Internship along with guidelines for all the stakeholders. She also discussed flexibility in duration, schedule, full time & half time internship activities. Then, success stories of Training & Placement cell were discussed by Prof. Manoj Khalodkar.
To discuss need and importance of internship, several eminent speakers presented their views, which includes Mr. Shubham Gupta and Mr. Rishikesh Mhaske from IIT Bombay, Mr. Byomkesh Mishra, co-founder, Medha, Dr. Amik Garg, Director KIET, Prof. Saurabh Basu, IIT Guwahati.
Then, Mr. Sitaram Kandi, Vice President (HR CoEs), discussed various key points, which various industrialist keep in mind before hiring the graduates. After that, International Internship opportunities were discussed by Prof. M. P. Poonia, Vice Chairman, AICTE. In the end, the Q & A session was chaired by Prof. L. N. Mittal, Chairman NSC - Internship.
