5th November 2015
The Electronics and Communication department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a workshop on IT Networking on 5th November, 2015 at the College campus. The workshop was conducted by Milestone Achievers OPC Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Tarachand Dhoundiyal, CEO Milestone Achievers OPC Pvt. Ltd. was the guest speaker for the event. He gave a brief introduction on networking by saying networking is foundational to virtually all operations of corporate as well as individual existence. He further added that engineers in telecom as well as IT must have sound knowledge of networking along with practical, hands-on experience of hardware and software integration as well as configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting along with security.
He started the session by discussing about Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP). He explained that the CDP is a proprietary Data Link Layer protocol developed by Cisco Systems. It is used to share information about other directly connected Cisco equipment, such as the operating system version and IP address. CDP can also be used for On-Demand Routing, which is a method of including routing information in CDP announcements so that dynamic routing protocols do not need to be used in simple networks. He then highlighted on Cloud Computing. He explained that cloud computing deployment models like :
Public cloud that are owned and operated by companies that use them to offer rapid access to affordable computing resources to other organizations or individuals.
Private cloud is owned and operated by a single company that controls the way virtualized resources and automated services are customized and used by various lines of business and constituent groups.
Hybrid cloud uses a private cloud foundation combined with the strategic use of public cloud services. The reality is a private cloud can't exist in isolation from the rest of a company's IT resources and the public cloud. Most companies with private clouds will evolve to manage workloads across data centres, private clouds and public clouds-thereby creating hybrid clouds.
He further explained Cloud computing services, Software as a service (SaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a service (IaaS).
Mr. Dhoundiyal discussed with the students about the optical fiber splicing. He pointed out that Fusion splicing is the act of joining two optical fibers end-to-end using heat. The goal is to fuse the two fibers together in such a way that light passing through the fibers is not scattered or reflected back by the splice, and so that the splice and the region surrounding it are almost as strong as the virgin fiber itself. The source of heat is usually an electric arc, but can also be a laser, or a gas flame, or a tungsten filament through which current is passed.
The next topic of discussion was telecom. He said that telecommunications engineers use their technical expertise to also provide a range of services and engineering solutions revolving around wireless mode of communication and other information transfer, such as wireless telephony services, radio and satellite communications, internet and broadband technologies. He then discussed about the following topics of telecommunication:
- Wireline
- Wireless
- Global Access Management
- Global Service Management
- Telecom Project Management
- Telecom Program Management
He interacted with the participants regarding various certification courses for ITIL, PRINCE2, P3O, MSP, CCCP, CDCP. The students asked questions and cleared their doubts on the topic.
During the session, the speaker provided tips to the participants on resume preparation, mock interviews, stage presentation. The workshop team conducted some hands-on session for the same.
Overall the session was very interesting , informative and knowledgeable.
