Industrial visit to Pragati Power Corporation Limited

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon conducted an industrial visit to Pragati Power Corporation Limited, New Delhi on 28th November 2015. Nineteen students out of which seventeen from EEE and two from ECS Department visited the plant with faculty member Mrs. Tanushree Bhattacharjee.
Pragati Power Corporation Limited is an undertaking of Government of NCT of Delhi. It was incorporated on 9th January,2001 to undertake power generation activities for supplying power to Delhi. It is one of the leading Undertakings ofGNCTD.
Mr. Vikram Dangorey, Manager Technical PPCL delivered the welcome lecture.The visit was organized by Mr. S K Vermaengineer in PPCL then briefed about the plant. The students were then provided with the safety instructions.
Mr. Anand Prakash, engineer, hosted the participants guided them for the visit.. The students were introduced to all sections of the plant including turbine section, filter section, generator section, power transformers, sub-station, control room and condensers. They also give detailed explanation about the plant generation limit, distribution details of the plant.
The Pragati Power Corporation Limited the contract was signed with M/s BHEL for installation of 330MW gas based power plant in the vicinity of 220V, I.P. Extension, Switchyard on 05.05.2003. The station is comprised of 2x104MW gas turbines of GT Frame - 9E and 1x122MW steam turbine. The Waste Heat emanating from gas turbines is being utilized to generate122MW power through steam turbine. The hot gases of 560o centigrade with a mass flow of approx. 14000 metric ton per hour is passed through 02 Nos. waste heat recovery boilers of generate steam. The environmental friendly quality power generation through this station is pumped to 220kV Sub Station of Delhi Transco Limited.
The students were told about the New Power Projects undertaken by PPCL. PPCL is setting up a 1500 MW (Nominal capacity) Gas Based Combined Cycle Power Project at Bawana in North - West Delhi, over 100 Acres land adjacent to 400 KV Grid Station.
The visit was both interactive and educational. The students became well aware about the various departments and regarding the working of a power corporation.
