WORKSHOP ON VIRTUAL LAB
16th August 2018
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in association with IIT Delhi conducted one day workshop on “Virtual Labs” on 16th August 2018. 61 students of First year (Civil, ME, Electronics, Electrical, and ECS streams) participated in the workshop. Mr. Ashish Ranjan and Ms. Divya Priya (Executive Trainer, IIT Delhi Virtual Lab) were the resource persons for the workshop.
Virtual Labs is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt of India (GOI) under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT).
Principal Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K. Prasad along with Dean Academic Prof. (Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav inaugurated the workshop and welcomed the experts to the event.
Mr. Ashish Ranjan started the session with the brief introduction of Virtual Labs. He briefed, the basic purpose of Virtual Lab was to enhance the knowledge of students by providing the remote - access to labs in various disciplines of science and engineering.
He also explained the Virtual Lab portal, its important features and accesses of various labs developed by different participating institutes as well as the Control System Lab developed by DCE hosted at IIT Portal. These Virtual Labs cater to students at the undergraduate level, postgraduate level as well as to research scholars. He demonstrated a few experiments of Solid State Physics Lab, Inorganic Chemistry and Colloid Surface Labs to the students. The objective of the demonstration was to make students well conversant with the principles and functions of Virtual Labs. The session was very interactive and students enjoyed while learning concepts of the labs.
Next students were allowed to do hands-on practice on the Virtual Lab Portal. The students were divided into 2 computer labs, where they did experiments in Electrical - Virtual Electric Circuit lab, Electrical - Machines lab, Mechanical - FAB lab and Metal Forming Lab andPhysical Science - Solid State Physics Lab. The students were able to perform at least two experiments on their own in each lab with the guidance of IIT experts.
Overall, the workshop was a good exposure for students to get the basic knowledge and applying the same to various domains of engineering.
