Industrial Visits to HUAWEI
25th August 2018
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized an industrial visit to “HUAWEI” on 25th August 2018. 40 students along with faculty member Mr. Anil Kumar (Assistant Professor, CSE Department) went for the visit.
The main objective of the visit was to teach the basics of networking and telecommunication to students and to practically show them the technology used behind it.
Huawei is a company that has secured its own place in the field of telecommunication. It is a Chinese multinational networking, telecommunication, equipment and service provider company with its headquarter in Shenzhen, China. It is the largest telecommunication equipment manufacturer in the world and second largest in manufacturing smartphones.
The team Dronacharya was taken to Huawei office. There they were greeted by COL. R.S Dubey (AD Consultant). He shared his experience of 35 years in the field of IT and telecom and service in Defence shared his insight into this field.
The session began with questions like what skills should students develop in order to get jobs in the field of networking. As the time has changed so shall the skills of young engineers should change to pace up with the advancements being seen nowadays. He urged the students to focus both on hardware and software part of the technology in order to hold a better grasp of the subject and how practical application of the subject would help the students to get better placements as well .Students were told how the scope of networking is expanding rapidly and how they can utilize the opportunity to grow.
Later they were taken to the Huawei labs and were shown the equipment’s used for telecommunication. There they were explained how Mobile stations, mobile equipment’s are the section of a GSM cellular network that the user sees and operates. In the recent years the size of which has fallen drastically but functionality has increased significantly.M
Students were explained following terms:
Base station subsystem (BSS) : The BSS section of the GSM network is associated with communicating with mobile phones on the network. It consists of Base transceiver station (BTS) : The BTS used in this system compromises with the radio transmitter receiver and their associated antennas that transmit and receive to directly communicate with the mobiles. The BTS is defining unit for each cell. The system was installed lab and students were able to see it upclose.
Base station controller (BSC): The BSC forms the next stage back into the GSM network .It controls a group of BTS and is often co-located with the group of BTS. It manages and receives radio resource and allocates channels.
Later students were informed about upcoming competitions to be held by Huawei which gives a great platform to students to represent their talent and how students can participate in competitions.
Overall, the session was precise, informative and practical skill enhancing. It was crucial for budding engineers as they were told the technical and personality skills they should hone and acquire in order to start a successful career.
