Guest Lecture on “Ethical Hacking”

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized guest lecture on “Ethical Hacking” for the students of 2nd year and 3rd year on 24th August 2018. The lecture was conducted in the guidance of the facilitator Mrs. Megha Goel. The guest lecture was delivered by Col. R.S Dubey.
Col. R.S Dubey initiated by explaining student’s the basic meaning of ethical hacking. Then he discussed the types of hacking & hackers and the need for cyber security. He told there are three types of hackers: Black Hat Hackers, White Hat Hackers and Grey Hat Hackers.
The first half of a session was on discussion on Operating System Security which can be done on any kind of operating system. He also demonstrated students the type of authentications that are Open source, Shared key access, Radius server and Protocol. He also spoke on how anyone can take backdoor entry in Windows XP if they have forgotten their user password. He also discourse the following operations related to security and manual removal of some viruses with the help of Windows Registry by using ‘regedit’ · Take login to the website using SQL Injection, Phishing attack, Creation of Batch File Virus, etc. There was also discussion on the necessity of ethical hacking which is helpful in detecting the vulnerability and security flaws of a website, so that one can take necessary precautions for Cyber Security. The talk included Shoulder searching attack, Social engineering, E-mail bombing, Caller Id spoofing etc.
The second half of the session was on practical knowledge on how to crack password, how to hack someone’s gmail account, facebook account etc. The session also included the steps involve in ethical hacking which are Reconnaissance, scanning the network, Gain access, Maintaining access and Clearing tracks.
In the end, the speaker informed the various career opportunities in the area of Ethical Hacking & Cyber Security and the openings regarding the same in government sector, banks, software development, online shopping portal etc. He motivated the students to look at these areas for their career development.
Overall session was proven to be inspiring and informative for the students.
