Technical Talk on "Importance of Mechanical Engineering & Job Opportunities"

IMechE DCE Student Chapter organized a technical talk on “Importance of Mechanical Engineering & Job Opportunities" Mr. Ravi ShankerKochak, Vice-Chairman Southern Asia Region, IMechEwas invited for the session. 48 students of ME Department attended the talk.
The talk started with an introduction of theory of mechanical engineering. This was followed by different skills required by a proficient mechanical engineer. Innovations and patents are required for enhancing the engineering profession. Accordingly, a glimpse was given of the emerging areas for application of innovations.
Thereafter, a variety of avenues for job opportunities for mechanical engineers in India in the government sector, public sector undertakings, private companies and consultancy firms was discussed. It was impressed upon the students to prepare for appearing in GATE exam conducted annually by Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, for becoming eligible for appointment to different government and PSU jobs. The need for learning different software and mastering them was discussed with the students, followed by sharing case studies carried out by Mr. Ravi S. Kochak during his service.
At the end the talk concluded by highlighting the benefits of seeking international professional affiliation with an institution of repute, like IMechE, was discussed. The responsibilities of an engineer in society was explained to the students, along with values, code of conduct and ethical behaviour towards health and safety of citizen and the environment. This was followed by a question and answer session. The students interacted frequently during the presentation. The talk was found to be informative and motivating for the students.
