ONE DAY EVENT ON "NATIONAL IP AWARENESS MISSION"

One day event on "National IP Awareness Mission" was organized by Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram. This event was being celebrated on World IP Day during the IP Literacy week celebration under Kalam Program for Intellectual Property Literacy and Awareness Campaign (KAPILA).This mission of this event was to provide awareness and benefits of Intellectual property and its Rights to Students and Faculty members of the colleges. More than 380 Participants attended the event that included faculty members, staff and students of the College.
The main objective of the session was to provide awareness on intellectual property and its rights to the students of colleges/Universities and to inculcate the spirit of creativity and innovation to students of higher education.
The inaugural ceremony of the event commenced with the lighting of lamp by Dr.B.M.K Prasad (Director, DCE, Gurgaon), Mr. Surajit Paul (Examiner of Patent Designs of IPO), Prof.Yashvardhan Soni (Academic Administrator), Prof. Dimple Saproo (Single Point of Contact, SPOC) and Dr. Seema (Event Coordinator) and HOD’s of various department. The program was followed by Saraswati-Vandana.
Dr. Seema welcomed esteemed resource person and all dignitaries and the participants.
Dr.B.M.K Prasad (Director, DCE, Gurgaon) in his address, briefed the importance of IPR, enlightening the students with the purpose and importance of the Patents and wished for the success of the event .
The program was followed by technical session taken by Mr. Surajit Paul (Examiner of Patent Designs of Intellectual Property Office (IPO) Delhi, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India)
He gave a brief introduction on IPR and discussed it importance. He explained different types of IP in detail with examples (Patents, Designs, Trade Marks, Geographical Indications, Copyrights, Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout – Designs (SCILD). The talk comprised the every information of the different rights, terms, criterion, filing process, fees, and basic timelines related to the IPR. He also discussed the recent initiatives taken by the Govt. of India to promote IPR in the Country. He emphasized the significance of the role of a strong IPR ecosystem in the development of a country and how IPR is an essential tool for the IP holder to become a "Job giver rather than job seeker".
After technical session, the video of Dr. Mohit Gambhir, Director of Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) was shared among the participants, to highlight the funding opportunities for patent through KAPILA scheme.
The event ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Dimple Saproo (SPOC). Overall, the event was interactive and speaker was able to ignite and inspire participants of the institute to innovate and protect their creations.
