Industrial visit to "National Institute of Solar Energy"
31st October 2023
ISTE Student Chapter, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized a visit to “National Institute of Solar Energy” at Gurugram on 31st October, 2023. Dr. Dheivanai (Associate Professor –EEE Dept.) and Dr. Ankit Agarwal (Assistant Professor – ME Dept.) along with 50 students of B.Tech 3rd Semester of EEE, ECE, and ME and R&A (3rd, 5th and 7th Semester) visited NISE.
NISE is a premier research and development institution in the field of solar energy. It is a government-funded institution dedicated to research, development, and education in the field of solar energy. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and resources, making it a hub for solar technology advancements and innovations. The industrial visit to NISE provided an insightful experience to the students.
During visit, Mr. Siddharth and Mr. Naveen, experts in the field, offered a detailed explanation of various solar technologies and their applications. The visit, which lasted more than two enlightening hours, served as a bridge between the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and the practical applications of Solar energy. Mr. Naveen provided a comprehensive overview of different types of solar collectors, including Flat-Plate Solar Collectors which are commonly used for residential and small-scale applications, and also told about their design, materials, and efficiency and concentrated Solar Collectors which are used for large-scale power generation. Students were shown the technique of focusing sunlight onto a small area, effectively generating high temperatures for power production.Mr. Siddharth explained the working principles of solar pumps, which are becoming increasingly important for agriculture and water supply in remote areas. He also explained about Solar Cold storage with thermal energy backup.
Students were given an insight into the testing procedures for solar panels, batteries, and other components used in solar energy systems. It was emphasized that quality control and testing are critical to ensure the efficiency and longevity of solar equipment.
Mr. Siddharth and Mr. Naveen shared some of the ongoing cutting-edge research projects and innovations in the field.
During their presentation, the students and faculty had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with the experts. The interactive session provided a deeper understanding of the topics discussed.
The industrial visit to NISE offered several important takeaways such as:
- Enhanced knowledge about different types of solar collectors and their applications.
- Insights into the utilization of solar energy for water pumping and its significance in rural areas.
- Understanding of the testing procedures to ensure the quality and performance of solar equipment.
- Understanding the concept behind the Thermal cold storage
- Exposure to the research and development activities in the field of solar energy.
The visit to the National Institute of Solar Energy was educational and eye-opening. It broadened the horizons of students providing them with a profound understanding of solar energy technologies and their applications.
It was a good and knowledgeable experience for all.
