E-cell-‘Dronpreneur’ of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon has organized Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) from 20th of January 2017 - 20th of Feb 2017.
‘Dronpreneur’ is a highly active Entrepreneurship Cell of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon which always focuses on empowering people and encouraging them to be a part of an entrepreneurial network.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K Prasad and EDC Head Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Ruhil along with Mr. Chain Singh (Assistant Professor) and Ms. Ashu Khurana (Assistant Professor),faculty members of the college and E-leaders Nishant Kumar(17096), Lokesh Pandey(17074), Deepesh(17046), Sakshi Sangwan (17124), Dhruv Nagesh(17049), and Shubhi Sarin (17145) from Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
20th January 2017:
The inauguration ceremony for Entrepreneurship Development Programme took place on 20th January 2017. The inauguration comprised of enlightening words by Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K Prasad. E-leader Deepesh gave overview on entrepreneurs and the important aspects to take care of before setting up any venture to the students. Also, students were told how to convert an idea into a business plan.
Further all the work that has been done by E-cell of the college till date was discussed by Nishant. Followed by this, Sakshi explained to students about Entrepreneurship Development Programme and the objective behind conducting EDP.
21stof January 2017:
E-leader, Sakshi explained , the Business Model. She had given a detailed description of Entrepreneurship and introduced the idea of B-plan and transforming that B-plan into reality. The process of business model construction is part of business strategy. She stated, an Entrepreneur is a person with proper strategy and a B-plan and who knows a proper way to utilize the resources to yield maximum output.
She explained that every person involved in a business directly or indirectly is responsible for an efficient output.She interacted with the students and enlightened them to have faith in themselves. She answered their queries and cleared their traditional beliefs and myths regarding entrepreneurship and business.
23rd of January 2017
Shubhi Sarin,an E-Leader explained about the importance of SWOT Analysis for a successful business. Shubhi who is also a successful entrepreneur explained her parameters and analysis for the SWOT matrix in her venture.
At the end of the session an interactive talk was held between the students and E-leader. The session turned out to be very fruitful as the students learnt a lot.
24th of January 2017:
The prominent guest for the session’s chair was Mr. Pulkit Gupta, (CEO of EzSwype). His venture allows offline merchants to accept mobile payments with ease, the customer engagement tools, data insights, marketing modules, loyalty points, coupons and personalized offers all on the cloud. Also, it accepts all kind of payments, and all payments modes are at one platform.
Mr. Pulkit is the Regional Head of Asian Institute of Family Managed Business (AIFMB), Pune. He shared his experience with the students along with the highs and lows he faced throughout. He explained how he turned his idea into a business plan stating the major features and benefits of his idea.
He also took queries from students regarding the issues they are facing. The session’s chair proved to be of immense help to all as it helped the students resolve their doubts and gave them a direction to begin.
25th of January 2017:
On this day students were asked to think of an idea to start a successful business with maximum profit and less input.
This turned to be an interactive session where the students gave various ideas to start a venture. Beginning with technical ideas and b-plan, there were various ideas which included non-technical but strong structure. E-Leaders gave various examples of B-plans and feasibility criteria related to it. They gave various examples along with their problems and solutions. With the activity they brought every student to a stage where they can think differently over their idea.
They were asked to think of various small ideas to manufacture products easily which will eventually increase and grow their entrepreneurial skills. They were given one day’s time to think and polish their ideas.
27th of January 2017:
The Alumni Interaction Programme was conducted under the EDP of Dronpreneur, where the alumni who have been working on their own startups were invited to address and guide the students. Mr. Anurag Vats and Mr. Amber took the initiative of the same.
Mr. Anurag Vats shared his experience as a part of Dronpreneur as well as his own venture. He told the students, the mistakes he made during the initial days of his startup and how he tackled with them. He also explained students how market research is a vital part of any venture.
Further Mr. Amber told students about his company ‘Technomattle’. He shared with students how he got the idea, and the phases in which he worked to make his startup a success. He explained the students how the knowledge of right market and business strategies could be an asset in formulating a good idea into profitable venture.
Later, the alumni take note to student’s ideas and business plans and helped them in refining the plans and provided valuable feedbacks in order to make them understand how it could turn out into more beneficial outputs.
28th of January 2017:
After the ideation phase and alumni interactions, E-Leaders came up with various handmade products: Candle Making, Key Rings, Paper Bags, Balloon Products, Basket Making, Soap Making and some organic products like: Chayawanprash, Organic Soap, Migraine curing nasal drops and Phenyl.
On 28th January 2017, students were given the detailed description about the designing of products. Design Thinking Workshop included all the steps starting from the planning of the designing and then carving them into final finished products. The students were grouped into various teams according to their interests and skills.
Different group of students were introduced with the raw materials required for production of their respective products. The samples of the respective finished products were also shown to them. The whole Performa and schedule for development phase was introduced to them.
30th of January 2017:
The Jury Interaction Program was conducted basically to help the students understand what the jury expect from them. Since the students were supposed to build products so before jumping onto implementation, it is important to understand whether the products they’ll be working on would be feasible or not.
The eminent Jury comprised of Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K. Prasad,Principal, Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Singh Dean Academics and Dr. Neelam Ruhil, EDC Head.
Students presented the ideas in front of the Jury one by one. They were then given feedbacks and important instructions they should take care of, to successfully complete the product and even market it properly.
31st of January 2017:
E-leaders also conducted a Jumbled Up Quiz contest. The basic motive behind this was to enhance the knowledge of students about some great startups and renowned entrepreneurs.
1st of February 2017:
An expert talk session by Mr. Prem Kumar Singh (A mountaineer) was organized by E-cell of the college .The objective of the session was to give a better understanding to the participants of: Importance of goal setting, Optimize potential in everyday performance, Be more aware of the environment and the ecosystem around, Be focused towards goals and Increase the overall energy of the workplace and be more dedicated towards the objectives.
2nd of February 2017:
After the selection of products to be manufactured a proper cost estimation was made. All the E-leaders gathered together to generate a Performa which would include all the details of products to manufactured and the raw materials needed so that the raw materials should be procured easily and low cost.
Financial management refers to the efficient and effective management of money (funds) in such a manner as to accomplish the objectives of the organization.finance as one of the main dimensions of BM which depicts information related to costing, pricing methods, and revenue structure.
3rd of February 2017:
After procurement phase, the participants were taught how to make various selected products. They were introduced with the whole procedure to make the products. Firstly, all the E-leaders personally made products.
All the products were taught simultaneously and parallelly, making the session interactive.
6th of February 2017:
The development phase started. All the participants were given the importance of innovation in any venture. Using various examples of well-established entrepreneurs and their innovative ideas, the participants were motivated to apply innovation in the products to be manufactured.
The first product designed was ‘Newspaper Basket’. The students were first taught by E-leaders how to make a paper basket from newspaper step by step and then the students were provided with all the material required to finish the product.
Students showed great enthusiasm and prepared beautiful products. This helped the students to understand how important it is to first design the product and then work on in the direction of its completion.
7th of February 2017:
On the second day candles were designed.In candle making students were first told about all the required material and then the procedure to make the candles was discussed. There were two types of candles to be made that is, wax candles and gel candles. The E-leaders made the specimen products so the students could understand the implementation. Then the students were told about all the precautions they need to carry.
After that students were allowed to develop their first product with the assistance of E-leaders. When the students had made their first product, a competition was conducted where the students had to make maximum number of candles in a given time period. In this competition the main objective to be achieved was to make creative molds and then decorate the candles with all the innovation.
8th of February 2017:
The third product was ‘Paper Bag’, where the students were first told how the final product would look like, then, they were provided with the design and the requirements. The E-leaders made a prototype product for the understanding of students and then gave them some tips how they could make cleaner products.
After that students were helped to develop their first product. When all students were done with their first product a competition was held where the students had to make paper bags from given material in a time-frame. The important aspect of this competition was to implement the tips and make neatest products and then make them innovative.
Later the finished products would be judged based on the above parameters and the result declared in the closing ceremony. The students found the product development very interesting and made numerous eye-catching products in a short span of time.
9th of February 2017:
The candle making and paper bag making continued. The participants were provided with their respective paper bags that were created by them the last day. The finishing of products was done on the day that is the punching of paper bags with the ribbon handle.
The candles were also finished on the day.Using glitters and other decorative materials the students decorated their candles and candles were hence completed.
All the participants understood the importance of finishing products.
10th of February 2017:
An expert Acharya Vedvrat from Krukshetra was invited to teach the students about manufacturing of organic products using processed extracted materials. He along with his team introduced himself to the participants. He shared his journey to be an entrepreneur. He told that he has 28+ years’ experience. He worked for
6 years in defense as civil engineer. After this experience, he utilized 10 years for self-study and to understand his potential and his goal.
He motivated and taught students how to make soaps, chawanprash, phenyl, and nasal drops to cure migraine. A productive workshop was held and these products were manufactured by the students under his guidance. E-leaders also participated in the work.
11th of February 2017:
On 11th February 2017, students were taught to manufacture key-rings. This was the most innovative product created. E-leaders taught the participants to weave the key-rings with Scooby strings and attaching assemblies to it.
The students learnt the importance of dedication and concentration in manufacturing the products. Initially, the students found it difficult to weave as lot of concentration was required in making it. After motivation and support of E-leaders, participants found it interesting to manufacture the key-ring.
13th of February 2017:
It was the last date of development phase where participants were taught to make a basket using glue and balloon as a mould. The participants were asked to blow up the balloon and apply glue on half of this to make the base of the basket. When the glue dried, the buttons were pasted where the glue was applied previously to decorate it and to make the basket strong.
After manufacturing the products, students were taught to pack the products and to paste logo to them.The participants enjoyed the packing of the products and finishing them. The participants were provided with the raw materials and were instructed to make as many products they want by adding innovation to it.The participant who will manufacture maximum product will be awarded with a prize.
14thof February 2017:
To spread awareness about entrepreneurship a few activities were conducted at Cannaught Place, Janpath and Palika Baazar. The activities were- Survey, Awareness with cue cards, engaging the kids and Experimenting with polybags.
15thof February 2017:
To empower young students with the knowledge of entrepreneurship various schools were visited. This was an important activity as school students are the core future of startup culture and if they stay unaware of it then it becomes difficult to share ideas and enhance quality startups. The E-leaders went to schools in Gurgaon and took a small session explaining about entrepreneurship.
They told the students the meaning of entrepreneurship by giving real life examples. Then a few activities were conducted to involve the students and have a better understanding of the concept.
At last a question answer session was conducted so that students could put up their queries and know about anything in the field they wanted to. It came out as an interactive session as the youngsters had a lot to ask.
16th of February 2017:
A fun event named ‘Kaun Banega Entrepreneur’ was conducted for the students of various departments. In the beginning a short session was conducted to spread awareness about latest entrepreneurship buzz around the world.
The basic concept of the competition was to convert ideas into business plans. In the first stage of the competition the students had to explain their ideas in the form of stories and relate it to any similar work being done also stating how their idea was different as well as better from the existing. Then the shortlisted participants presented their ideas to the judges. Also, they had to explain how the idea could actually be implemented and converted into an efficient business plan.
Also the participants were asked about the entrepreneurs and startups they follow and then explain what they have learnt from the startups and where according to them the startups would be in a few years from now. Based on the above students were judged and the best business plan idea was chosen.
This made the students keen about entrepreneurs and the facts related to it. This event was essentially related to empowering the students with the knowledge of startup culture.
17th of February 2017:
On 17th February, E-leader presented the role of marketing their ventures and deciding the target material efficiently. The heart of a business success lies in its marketing. Most aspects of the business depend on successful marketing. The overall marketing umbrella covers advertising, public relations, promotions and sales. Marketing is a process by which a product or service is introduced and promoted to potential customers.
The final products manufactured by students were presented to the jury and a question round took place where jury asked the participants various questions and logical reasoning regarding entrepreneurship.
18th of February 2017:
After successful completion of production and packaging of the products, the team was all set to promote their products in the college and outside the campus. A group of students and E-leaders started the rally to promote their campus run company and products. The rally was conducted in Cannaught Place. In the beginning to attract the mob a short dance was done. After a number of people had gathered, a short speech about entrepreneurship was delivered.
The basic motive behind rally was to spread awareness about entrepreneurship.It was a part of the public awareness regarding business and myths regarding entrepreneurship.
20th of February 2017:
The closing ceremony of Entrepreneurship Development Program took place on 20th of February, 2017 at college campus. The ceremony was attended by eminent Jury along with the HOD’s of all departments. Also, all the students and various people who were a part of the EDP throughout were invited.
Before the closing ceremony a ‘Mini Bazaar’ was organized in the college premises. It was specifically a stall where all the products that were designed after a lot of hard work and input by the students were displayed and were available for sale.
The work of the students was greatly appreciated and the students showed their marketing skills by selling their maximum products. This also inculcated a sense of pricing and knowledge of finished and required products in the students.
After the successful winding up of the Mini Bazaar, the closing ceremony was conducted where Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K. Prasad, Principal enlightened the students with his remarkable words. He told the students the importance of entrepreneurship and how they could more renowned entrepreneurs to mark their presence in the world. He also appreciated the work done under the EDP.
Later, Dean Academics shared his valuable words regarding entrepreneurship. He explained the difference between dreams and goals. By referring to the results and outputs from the EDP, he appreciated the efforts of Ms. Ashu Khurana and Mr. Chain Singh along with their team for completing the programme successfully. He also appreciated the efforts of the participants and hence announced the prizes. Bharti Sherawat(17036) and Tejasvita(18172) won prize in Candle making. Shubhi(17145) won prize in Basket making. Priyanka Gauba (18121) won prize in Keyring making.
