Familiarization Workshop of UG VLSI Curriculum

Dr. Seema and Ms. Sonia Arora (ECE Department) of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram attended the “Familiarization Workshop of UG VLSI Curriculum” conducted on 16th May, 2024 at Visvesvaraya Hall, AICTE HQ, New Delhi.
The workshop started with the keynote address by Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE. He gave the introduction about the Semiconductor Mission of India. He described the benefits of the AI and how VLSI plays a major role to ease daily life. He underscored the critical importance of VLSI in the semiconductor industry. He elaborated the investment plans already done by Indian Government to make India a hub to manufacture Integrated Circuits. He also introduced the committee members who helped in executing the curriculum of UG VLSI.

Prof. Alex James elaborated the complete Course Curriculum of UG VLSI. He explained the 7 specializations that could be achieved by opting this course. He focused on the jobs which are available in the market like, Foundry jobs, Equipment Manufacture jobs etc. He also emphasized on visit in Fabrication Lab within India for the students which is mandatory during the course.
Ms. Apurva Varma illustrated about the arm resources (Books, online course, softwares, tools and Teaching Materials) that are available free of cost on their platform. Mr. Manoj Kumar explained about the complete ecosystem, Hardware evaluation tools, educational platforms, resources to move forward with the design, MOOC Courses and other types of engagements with faculty/institutes offered by ST Microelectronics.
Then, Mr. Sankalp Singh discussed about the Synopsis-India Academic Program, He covered the different Programs like University Software Program (USP), Education Partnerships (EP), Research Partnerships (RP) and Academic Ambassador Program (AAP) to bridge the gap between industry-academia to create new opportunities for innovation and collaboration.
Ms. Prabha Bhaktharam emphasized on AICTE and University Collaborations. Cadence have added 5 major categories (constitute 125 courses) of cadence courses in the AICTE Curriculum under the industry elective section.
At the end, Q & A Session was taken by all the team members and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Mamta Rani Agarwal. This workshop proved to be a highly insightful and encouraging event. Faculty members from various institutes and universities expressed high satisfaction with the content, presentation quality, and the overall organization of the workshop.
