International yoga day

The 1st International Yoga Day on 21st June 2015 at Boat Club, India Gate, New Delhi was organized by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Government of India. More than 400 NSS volunteers along with 16 faculty coordinators of Dronacharya college of Engineering, Gurgaon participated in the event.
Rehearsal for International Yoga Day was organized on 18th and 19th June 2015. All the volunteers and the faculty members reached Rajpath at 4:00 AM. Ernst & Young (EY) Team members divided the volunteers into group of 30 and allotted them their zones and trained them to evaluate the record of Yoga performer. Each volunteer were assigned 50 yoga performer. In total 35,985 participants belonging to 84 nationalities participated in the event and the 1st International Yoga Day was awarded two world records by Guinness World Records (GWR).
The event commenced with the welcome speech of
Sh. Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of AAYUSH at 6:40 am.
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the International Yoga Day of Yoga at 6.45am.
He said “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” Out of 193 countries (that are members of the UN), 192 countries (except Yemen) celebrated Yoga Day.
The yoga session concluded at 7.35 am.
