Conference of Contours for Higher Education Policy for Bharat

A Conference on Contours of Higher Education Policy for Bharat was organized against the backdrop of Union Government’s ongoing review of national educational policy on 8th June 2015 at the Commission Hall, 3rd Floor, FICCI Federation House, New Delhi. Mrs. Neha Malik, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department and Mrs. Dimple Saproo, Associate Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department fromDronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon got the opportunity to attend the conference. Delegates from IIT, NIITand varsities from universities of different states were invited to attend the conference and to share their views.
The session was inaugurated by Smt. Smriti Irani, Honourable Union Minister for MHRD. She delivered the inaugural address on “Need of higher education in India”. Shri Suresh Prabhu, Honourable Union Minister for Railways detailed about the “Need for robust industry academia linkages”. Dr. Nachiketa Tiwari, Associate Professor at IIT Kanpur , Chairperson of the Conference, gave important remarks regarding purpose of education in India .
In this discussion-oriented Conference the focus was on the need and strategy for democratizing higher education, leveraging our extensive higher educational infrastructure to make India a global educational hub, scalable and effective models for raising faculty quality, autonomy for educational institutions: academic, financial, and administrative, fair and effective governance models for education sector, internationalization of higher education, curricula innovation and value education.
Other prominent speakers at the conference were Dr. G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor of VIT University, Vellore, Tamilnadu shared his view about limitations of current governance model for higher education, Prof. Kapil Kapoor, Chancellor of International Hindi University, Wardha, gave his vision about reshaping our higher education governance model. Dignitaries Shri T. V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education, Shri Mukul Kanitkar, Jt. Secy., Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Prof. P.B. Sharma Vice chancellor, Amity University, Dr. Narendra Faujdar, Chancellor, WCT Group, Prof. M.C. Misra, Director, AIIMS, North Delhi were present at the event and gave their valuable opinions on the topic.
