World Cancer Day Awareness Programme
4th February 2026
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram, observed World Cancer Day on 4th February 2026 with a special awareness programme aimed at educating students about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day is an international initiative celebrated annually to raise awareness about cancer and to encourage proactive healthcare measures. In line with this, the NSS Units in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an informative lecture and awareness session for the student community.
The primary objectives of the programme were to educate students about the various types of cancer, dispel myths and stigmas associated with the disease, promote healthy lifestyle choices including diet, exercise, and tobacco cessation, and emphasize the critical role of early diagnosis in improving survival rates.
The session covered several important topics. Students were presented with the global and national burden of cancer, highlighting the rising incidence of the disease in India. Risk factors such as environmental pollutants, processed foods, and sedentary lifestyles were discussed to encourage preventive measures. The lecture also provided practical guidance on screening methods, including self-examination techniques and clinical tests for early detection. Additionally, the programme explored innovations in medical technology, illustrating how engineering students can contribute to oncology through AI-driven diagnostics and medical instrumentation.
Following the lecture, an interactive question-and-answer session allowed students to engage with the speaker and clarify doubts on topics ranging from hereditary risks to modern treatments like immunotherapy. This participatory approach encouraged critical thinking and deeper understanding of the subject.
The World Cancer Day Awareness Programme at DCE Gurugram proved to be highly successful in empowering students with knowledge and fostering social responsibility among future engineers. The event concluded with a “Pledge for Health,” in which all attendees committed to maintaining a tobacco-free lifestyle and promoting cancer awareness within their communities, reinforcing the importance of individual action in combating this global health challenge.
