SPIC Macay Inaugural Concert

SPIC MACAY Chapter of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized an Inaugural Concert under Virasat Series on 29th July 2017 at the campus. The event hosted a Flute Recital by the Internationally Renowned Artist Pt. Rajendra Prasanna under the aegis of SPIC MACAY. Pt. Rajendra Prasanna, a legend in the field of instrumental music is from Banaras Gharana, recipient of many awards and honours including UP Sangeet Natak Academy (1995) and Grammy Award Certificate. He was accompanied by three more artists Mr. Rishabh Prasanna, Mr. Abhishek Mishra and Mr. Shazad Rasheed.
The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture.
The event and mesmerising performance was witnessed by the staff of DCE and students of Ist Year along with their parents.

The programme began with lamp lightening and rendering flowers before the statue of Maa Saraswati by the all the eminent guests. The students welcomed the dignitaries by presenting potted bamboo plants to them. The opening address was given by Honorable Principal, Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad. He briefed the gathering by saying that collaborating with SPIC Macy is essential in academia to increase awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it.
Pt. Rajendra Prasanna Ji along with other artists was accorded a traditional welcome and the programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
Sh. Rajendra Prasanna Ji started the programme with a melodeous ‘aalap’ which transcended deep down in the hearts of the audience. His interaction with the students was very interesting and they sang ‘Ram Siya Ram Siya Ram Ji ‘along with the tune of the flute. The performance kept the audience spell bound and mesmerized. The atmosphere came alive with jugalbandi of flute and tabla in which the students also participated enthusiastically.
