NPTEL Felicitation cum awareness workshop for SPOC at IIT Madras

To create maximum awareness among faculty members about NPTEL and its various initiatives IIT Madras organized a National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) awareness workshop for SPOC on 15th July 2017 at CLT, IIT Madras. Ms. Ashu Khurana, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering with Ms. Renu, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering represented Dronacharya College of Engineering at the workshop.

The session began with a welcome address by Prof. Bharathi (IITM). She thanked to thePrincipals/SPOCsandMentorsfor their valuable role inNPTEL courses. She said that the NPTEL courses are not limited to any particular branch or year of study. Courses are available for every person worldwide who is interested in studying.
Then next session conducted by Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator - NPTEL IITM. He explained the steps to enroll into a course. He gave a brief of the NPTEL accomplishments during Jan - April 2017. He also shared his experience during a conference in Germany where students from Canada thanked him for making the NPTEL videos available to them.
Then next session was conducted by Prof. Prathap Haridoss, IITM . He discussed about the NPTEL online courses. He said that the online courses had been offering open online courses along with certification since March 2014, These this online portal is of 10 Hrs, 20 Hrs and 30 Hrs courses of 4, 8 and 12 weeks period respectively in various engineering disciplines, sciences that included relevant exposure to tools and technologies currently being offered by NPTEL. Then he explained the benefit these courses at different level like How participants can improve their skills and knowledge by receiving quality instructions. Industry can also use the courses to reduce training time, broaden and refreshing the skills set of their employees.
Prof. Andrew Thangarajthen invited the SPOCs and Mentorsto share their experiences and problem faced during the course. Based on feedback form and assessment of students in the Programming courses offered as part of NPTEL previously, Google and NPTEL with the support of ACM / NASSCOM / AICTE is together planning on running a National Programming Aptitude Test (NPAT). Mr. Ashwani Sharma, Country Head, University Relations, Google discussed the idea of NPAT. He said that through NPAT basic competence in programming is to be tested and an exam will be held for final evaluation and certification. The target group is college students of all disciplines. The scope is basic competence in coding for well - defined tasks such as summing the elements of an array, printing all positive elements of an array etc. They also declared that if performance of the students will be good and consistent then they will get a chance to go to IIT Madras for training.
Prof. Andrew and Ms. Bharthi then gave a brief of courses and other detail for the July – Nov 2017 run NPTEL Courses. They alsocollected the feedback from the SPOCs.
Besides the noble job being done by IIT faculty, they all appreciated the marvelous efforts being put in by NPTEL back - end team including Ms. Kamala, Ms. Bharathi and Ms. Gayathri.
The eventended with the distribution of Certificates to the high performing colleges in NPTEL.
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon was felicitated by Mrs. Malti Narayanan, Dy. Secy, Higher Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and Prof. & IIT Madras for securing "A" Category in NPTEL.
