Technical Sessions by Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE)

Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education (MoE) and Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram, organized a technical talk on “Trends in Automotive Industry.” The objective of the event was to highlight the recent trends in automotive industry, fostering innovation, and preparing students for competitive global challenges. Presence of distinguished speakers from the automotive industry Mr. Tuhin Shrivastava (Vice Chair, Student Activities, SAE India), Mr. U.D. Bhangale (Executive Director, SAENIS), Mr. Arun Goel (Vice President, Technical Center, Subros Limited) and Mr. I.V. Rao (Distinguished Fellow, TERI and former Senior Executive at Maruti.) added immense value, as they shared their expertise and experiences, inspiring students to explore new horizons in the field of automotive engineering.
Dr. Isha Malhotra (Principal, DCE), Faculty members of Mechanical Engineering Department along with 51 students spanning I, III, and V semesters from Mechanical Engineering and Robotics & Automation Departments attended the day which featured a range of activities including technical sessions, motivational talks, and interactive discussions with industry veterans.
The primary objectives of the event were to:
- Introduce students to SAE India and its numerous opportunities.
- Highlight the importance of professional clubs in fostering technical and managerial skills.
- Provide insights into the latest trends and technologies in the automotive sector, such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) and thermal management systems.
- Inspire students to actively participate in SAE competitions and pursue innovative projects.
- Build a strong network between the institution and the automotive industry.
The event began with a welcome speech highlighting the significance of the SAE Club and its potential to advance students' technical and professional skills. Dignitaries and faculty participated in ceremonial lamp lighting.
Thereafter, Mr. Tuhin Shrivastava highlighted the various competitions and activities organized under the aegis of SAE India. He showcased videos of SAE Baja and Supra, which captured the imagination of the students and motivated them to participate in these prestigious events.
Mr. U.D. Bhangale emphasized the value of SAE membership, including access to a global network of professionals, exposure to real-world engineering challenges, and opportunities for internships and placements.
Mr. Arun Goel explained the critical aspect of thermal management in electric vehicles. He explained the mechanisms for managing heat in batteries and power electronics, highlighting their importance in ensuring vehicle efficiency and safety.
Mr. I.V. Rao’s session was a blend of inspiration and industry insights. He spoke about the culture at Maruti Udyog, the importance of teamwork, and the need for innovation in solving real-world problems. His stories resonated with students, many of whom expressed their interest in pursuing careers in the automotive sector.
A brief overview of the SAE Collegiate Club was presented, outlining its objectives, mission, and the opportunities it offers for students to gain practical exposure in automotive engineering. A presentation was given on the range of activities and competitions organized under SAE, such as Baja, Supra, and Aero Design. Students were encouraged to participate on these platforms to enhance their skills. An inspirational talk emphasized the importance of perseverance, innovation, and teamwork in the automotive industry. Attendees were encouraged to embrace challenges and leverage the SAE Club for their professional growth.
The audience were informed about the advantages of joining SAE, including access to industry events, workshops, and a global network of professionals. The benefits were positioned as pivotal for shaping students' academic and career paths. A detailed session focused on thermal management systems in electric vehicles, addressing the challenges and innovations in this critical area of automotive design. Practical examples were shared to provide real-world context.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the contributions of speakers, faculty, and students, and reiterating the importance of the SAE Club in driving innovation and excellence.
