Industrial Visit to MTNL

DCE ISTE Student Chapter, Dronacharya College of Engineering , Gurugram organized an industrial visit on 6th April 2018 to Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd(MTNL) located in Goswami Girdhari Lal Marg, SHADIPUR . 51 students of First Year along with faculty coordinator Dr. Sangeeta Singla visited the industry. The visit was organized with prior permission and guidance of Mr. H. O.Arora ( Manager(Trg) ITTM.
The main objective of the industrial visit to MTNL was to get practical training and knowledge on various parts of networking from ITTM (The Institute of Technology and Management) and to make students aware of how the networking industry works and what are the various challenges faced by the company.
Mahanagar Telecom Nigam LTD is a state - owned telecommunication service provider in metro cities of Mumbai and New Delhi in India and in the island nation of Mauritius in Africa. The company had a monopoly in Mumbai and New Delhi until 1992, when the telecom sector was opened to other service providers. The government of India currently holds 100% stock in the company.
The Institute of Telcom Technology and Management, ITTM (formerly DTTC) Shadipur is a state of the art training center of MTNL, Delhi engaged in imparting induction training and short duration trainings to its officers and employees in the field of Telecom, IT, Computer Systems and Management.
Mr. V.B Shrivastava (Manager (Trg).at ITTM) welcomed the students. He gave the students were given an overview on the MTNL and were made aware of the Employment Induction Training at ITTM.
Mr. Rajesh Rajoriya conducted the lecture “Basics of Networking and Networking devices”. The topics were taught to the students Basics of Networking, OSI Model, TCP/ IP Model, MAC addresses, NIC cards, ACL, IP addresses ( Public IP and Private IP) [IPV4 / IPV6], Switches, Routers and CCNA.
After talking the basics of Networking and Networking Devices the students were divided into two groups and were taken to the different labs for practical demonstration. The students were taken to the following labs Transmission Lab, IP Networking Lab, GSM Lab and Broad Band Lab.
The Transmission Lab was conducted by Mr. Hari Om Arora who is specialized in Transmission and FTTH at ITTM Shadipur. The students were taught Optical Fibers and FTTH. The students were given a live demonstration on how to perform splicing of optical fibers using a "Splicing Machine".
The IP Networking Lab was conducted by Mr. Rajesh Rajoriya who is specialized in "IP Networking and Computer Systems at ITTM Shadipur". The students were given a demonstration of 7 CISCO Routers of different Series, 24 Port Switch and MLPS, ISDN & Broadband Connectivity. The students were also taught about various algorithms such as MST (Loop Avoidance) and OSPF (Shortest Path for the packets).
The GSM lab was conducted by Mr. Ajay Bhalla who is a manager (Trg.) at ITTM Shadipur. The students got to learn various devices such as: GSM Module, Micro BTS 2G and Micro BTS 3G.
Mr. Ajay Bhalla gave a lecture to the students on how GSM works. The students were also taught ITS and were shown a prototype of it.
The Broadband lab was conducted by Mr. Ganesh Khanna who is a manager (Trg.) at ITTM Shadipur. The students got to learn about various topics such as DSLAM, Wireless Networking, and Broadband Services Networking Standards.
The students clearly understood the basics of networking and developed an interest in the field of networking. Many of the students also got interested to join the employment induction Training Programme for 6 Weeks at ITTM Shadipur. The complete visit was highly knowledgeable to the students.
