Celebration of Lohri Makar and Sankranti
13th - 14th January 2025
NSS Units, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram celebrated Lohri and Makar Sankranti as a part of Yuva Bharat, My Bhart on 13th – 14th January 2025. Faculty members and students enthusiastically participated in the celebration. Makar Sankranti marks a new phase of life which is full of knowledge, purity, and wisdom.
The primary aim of the celebration was to honor the unity in diversity of the nation and foster a spirit of collective growth. As a land of festivals, Lohri and Makar Sankranti are celebrated as the festival of thanksgiving and prosperity. The festival is celebrated under different names in different parts of the country. While it is known as Makar Sankranti in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand; in Punjab, it is known as Lohri, and in the southern states, it is observed as Pongal.
To celebrate the festivals everyone came in traditional attire. The celebration began with a speech by principal highlighting the importance of the festivals. After the speech everyone moved towards ground. The holy fire was blown in college ground. The students and faculty members sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab around the fire.
The festival marks the start of the spring season and the harvest of wheat crops sown in winter. Everyone offered prayers to the God of Fire for a prosperous harvest and happiness for all. On the occasion, students and faculty members went to the adopted village Kharkhari to perform charity and distributed Til laddoos, Revari and Kites to the children.
After that everyone enjoyed peanuts, revari and popcorns. Festival was celebrated with a lot of exuberance and fanfare.
