INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO CEERI
2nd September2016
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized an Industrial Visit to CEERI (Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute), Pilani Rajasthan on 2nd September 2016. Two faculty members, Mrs. Sakshi Pahuja and Mr. Surendar Dhaka, ECE Department along with the 27 students of ECE (Vth Semester) visited CEERI.
CSIR - Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR - CEERI), Pilani is a premier research Institute in the field of Electronics, established in 1953 under the aegis of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).
CEERI offers consultancy services for new designs, and upgradation and absorption of technology to industry, R&D units and project engineering organizations and undertakes contract research on specific problems and requirements of electronic industry.
Prof. Santanu Chaudhury welcomed the faculty members and students and briefed them about the introduction of the institute as well as the research area. Then a member of his team took the group to the different area of institutes. Students went to Electron tubes area. There Mr. Rajender Kumar Verma explained about Megnetron, it’s working and applications. He also discussed some of the latest research which is going on in particular area. Next cathode and cathode tube development area is visited where they students saw how cathode glass tubes are designed from raw materials and how glassblowing is done to get different glass shape.
At last students went to Plasma Device Technology Department that work on development of high voltage, high current with fast rise time switches, such as Thyratron and Pseudospark Switches for pulse power modulator of Laser systems, Linear accelerators etc. There work on development of non-thermal, high efficient (30 - 40 %) UV source for water purification sterilization and other industrial applications is also done. Students also got to know about the latest mercury free UV lamp for water purification which was developed there.
The visit provided an insight of research in three areas, namely:
- Advanced Electronic Systems: Electronic Instrumentation, Industrial Control & Automation, Power Electronics, Robotics, Image Processing & DSP, Embedded System Design etc.
- Advanced Semiconductor Electronics : MEMS, Microsensors, VLSI Design (Digital, Analog, Mixed Signal), Opto-electronic Technologies, Photonic Devices and Sub-systems, Nano - electronics etc.
- Microwave Tubes: Klystron, Magnetron, Travelling Wave Tubes, Gyrotron, Plasma Tubes, Tera Hertz devices etc.
The industrial visit to CEERI was an enriching experience for all students as they got live exposure of manufacturing which can help them in their internships and further career enhancements.
