CSI 52nd Annual Convention

Mrs. Poonam Yadav (Student Branch Coordinator, CSI) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the Computer Society of India (CSI) 52nd Annual Convention hosted by Kolkata Chapter at Science City, Kolkata based on the theme “Social Transformation-Digital Way” from 19th - 21st January 2018. Dronacharya College of Engineering has been accredited as the Best Student Branch of Region-1 in recognition of significant contribution to the CSI activities during the year 2016-17 and being the Student Branch Coordinator (SBC), Mrs. Poonam Yadav represented the college at the three-day convention and received the award.
The theme of the CSI 2017 was "Social Transformation - Digital Way ". It covered all aspects of digital technology and machine learning in computer science and engineering, general science, educational research and management science. The convention provided a platform to the participants to share their views and ideas on latest technological developments in an inter- and intra-disciplinary perspective. Apart from technical sessions, tutorials, panel discussions, exhibitions, various functions for awards are main features of the convention. More than 1,000 IT professionals and students across India participated in the annual convention Computer Society of India (CSI).
11 pre-convention tutorial sessions were held on 18th January to benefit the young learners, students and IT professionals on subjects including cloud computing and security, computer vision for intelligent video surveillance, machine learning, green computing, face recognition, cognitive radio in 5-G, etc. Different parallel technical sessions with paper presentation, technical talks, panel discussions were organized during the conference. The proceedings of the conference will be published by Springer Nature Singapore in CCIS Series indexed by SC Imago, Scopus, DBLP.
Day 1: 19th January, 2018
The convention was inaugurated by Dr. Partha Chatterjee (Higher Education Minister of West Bengal). The keynote address was given by Prof. Mike Hinchey (President, International Federation for Information Processing-IFIP). Speaking on the theme, he addressed the gathering by giving a real life example, every person today is using a digital technology in availing the day to day services whether it be the direct benefits of the government or hailing a cab or withdrawing money from an ATM, or ordering groceries or chatting with friends or family. The Presidential address was given by Mr. Sanjay Mohapatra (President, CSI). He welcomed all the esteemed attendees from various fields and the participants for different sessions. He also focused on there is a constant need for IT Professionals to update themselves and academia for smooth transformation of knowledge and skill.
The motivational lecture was delivered by Swami Shastrajnananda, (Principal, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math). He said, if you want to achieve your goals and dreams in life, you need to wake up and go beyond your comfort zone.
Day 2: 20th January, 2018
On the second day, there was a meeting with the Chapter representatives, Regional Student Coordinators, State Student Coordinator, and Student Branch Coordinators. The 52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of CSI was organized, which was attended by CSI Board Members:

More than 150 CSI - SBC from different colleges also attended the meeting. The agenda of the meeting was to confirm the Annual Report and Audit of Accounts for the Financial Year 2016 - 17. The chapter chairman’s introduced their chapters and also shared their significant contribution to serve the society and students. They also discussed if they are facing some problems regarding their chapters.
Mrs. Poonam Yadav (SBC, CSI Student Branch, DCE Gurgaon) introduced the CSI Dronacharya Branch and said aim of the branch is to offer a range of services and networking opportunities through workshops, seminars, conventions, courses and digital opportunities for development, exchanging knowledge and ideas for students. She also shared, in the past, the DCE college have organized three State Student Conventions (SSC) in 2014, 2016 & 2017 and this year college is organizing CSI Regional Student Convention 2018 providing all the necessary details. On behalf of DCE, she invited all the delegates and Region-1 representatives to come and join for the inaugural ceremony.
Day 3: 21st January, 2018
The eventual carnival of CSI Convention, CSI Annual Awards Ceremony was held. SBCs were felicitated with 150 awards under different categories. Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon won the Best Accredited Student Branch Award in Region-1.
Prof. Dr. Anirban Basu, Mr Sanjay Mohapatra, Mr. Gautam Mohapatra and Prof. A.K. Nayak presented the prestigious “Best Accredited Student Branch Award” to Mrs. Poonam Yadav (SBC, CSI Student Branch, DCE, Gurgaon).
At the end of the conference CSI Secretary Mr. Devaprasanna Sinha gave the vote of thanks to all the stakeholders, delegates, authors, speakers, participants and all members of CSI 2017 convention committee who have contributed to the success of this programme. The convention proved to be informative and knowledgeable for everyone present at the venue.
