At NITTTR Chandigarh
11th - 15th March 2019
Ms. Swati Sharma (Assistant Professor) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram attended a five day short term course on "OFC Networks and Troubleshooting" organized by NITTTR, Chandigarh from 11th - 15th March 2019 .
11th March 2019 :
On 11th March 2019, the Registration and inauguration was held in presence of Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary , Head of Dept. of Applied Science at NITTTR Chandigarh. Five institutes from all over India participated in the short term course at NITTTR, Chandigarh and Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram was part of the course. Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary initiated the short term course by giving an overview of OFC Technology. Then he highlighted the importance of OFC Technology in present scenario and focused on different transmission techniques using OFC Technology. He demonstrated basic concepts of physics such as Total Internal Reflection (TIR) and Dispersion, and how these processes take place in Optical Fibers. Next a small session was given in the laboratory regarding Dispersion and TIR in Optical Fibers.
12th March 2019 :
12th March 2019, Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary explained the Transmission Characteristics and Attenuation Mechanisms such as Material Absorption, Scattering, Bending Loss. The Rayleigh scattering and Brillouin Scattering were explained. He even explained about Multimode fibers and Single mode Fibers in detail with their specifications. The pre-Lunch Session was continued by Prof. S.C Jain, he was part of CSIO . He explained different Fabrication Techniques such as Modified Chemical Vapour deposition process (MCVD), Vapour Phase Axial Deposition Process (VAD). He also explained Glass fiber Fabrication and various types of effects such as Sintering. Next the laboratory session was organized for Hands-on-Training and Experiments.
13th March 2019 :
13th March 2019, Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary explained about the Fiber Joints and Splicing. He explained types of fiber splices such as Fusion Splices and Mechanical Splices. The Session was continued by Prof. (Sr. Scientist) J.K Chabbra, at CSIO, Chandigarh. He explained about Optical Sources and Detectors such as LED’s, PIN Diodes and types of materials used in Optical Fibers such as Galas, GaAsP and InGaAsP.
14th March 2019 :
14th March 2019, Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary explained the OFC link Design and Analysis by using different connectors and joints and cleaving of Optical Fibers. The session was continued by Prof. (Sr. Scientist) J.K Chhabra, CSIO, Chandigarh, he explained WDM Systems and its various components and about lasers and photodiodes such as Photomultiplier Tube and Avalanche Photodiode.
Visit at BSNL, Chandigarh:
A visit to BSNL, Chandigarh was arranged where the administrator explained the Kit used in connecting Optical Fibers and various ranges set for Transmission for different materials. The Visit focuses Optical Fibers Splicing and Cleaving and Joints provided to the Optical Fibers.
15th March 2019 :
15th March 2019, Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary explained the OTDR Testing and Fault Location and how we can determine the losses using Power Meters at different ranges to obtain better results and how different wavelengths effects the performance of Optical Fibers and how the values of losses be determined at different ranges of wavelengths.
The session was over by the Valedictory speech of Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary Head of Applied Science NITTTR, Chandigarh.
The Certificate was given to Ms. Swati Sharma by Prof.(Dr.) Bankim Chand Choudhary for her good performance in the complete five-day Course on “OFC Networks and Troubleshooting” at NITTTR, Chandigarh.
