Coordinator’s Workshop on Moodle

A one day Coordinators’ Workshop on Moodle was conducted at IIT Bombay on 1st March, 2019 for the existing Remote Centre of T10KT, IIT Bombay. The workshop was attended by one Teacher and one System Administrator each from 110 Remote Centers of IIT Bombay situated across the country. The activity was carried out under the aegis of 'Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching' (PMMNMTT), funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

The workshop started with the inaugural address by Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, PI, TLC (ICT) PMMMNMTT, IIT Bombay followed by welcoming address by Prof. Deepak B. Phatak., an Indian computer scientist and academic, and a recipient of the Padma Shree. Prof. Kannan Moudgalya. He threw light on Moodle and its usage and importance. He discussed Moodle is a learning management system (LMS in short) which helps teachers and educators create online courses for adaptive and customized learning. Developed in 2002, it is a free/libre and open source software and is being used by many small and large institutions to create and deliver courses online to their students.
Prof. Kannan explained, Moodle has many built-in features ranging from the basics such as file upload, assignments, quizzes, notifications and advanced features such as forums, quizzes, wiki, etc. that can be used by learners. It also has many easy-to-install plug-ins such as attendance, reminders, analytics, etc., to supplement these features. The inaugural session ended with Interaction with Remote Centres (Rcs) regarding Modalities of the workshop.
Prof. Kannan also asked the colleges to motivate their students to participate in FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2019.
After the inaugural session, Ms. Nirmala Venkat, Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay conducted the workshop for the Sysytem Administrators and explained them how to set up a Moodle Server.
Ms. Nancy Varkey, Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay coordinated with the teachers where she made them watch several videos on Moodle, pertaining to, Teachers Dashboard in Moodle , Course Administration in Moodle, Formatting Course material in Moodle, Uploading and Editing resources in Moodle, Forums and Assignments in Moodle, Question bank in Moodle, Quiz in Moodle, Enroll Students and Communicate in Moodle
Prof. Kannan Moudgalya asked the participants to assist the Main Workshop participants in watching the videos in a similar way and adopt it in their campuses.
The workshop ended with the Valedictory Session followed by singing of National Anthem.
