NSS Adventure Camp
1st - 10th November 2022
NSS student volunteers Harsh Bhardwaj ( ECE-II Year) and Riya (CSE II Year) along with NSS Program Officer Dr. Anupam Dalal from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended 10 Days adventure camp organized and sponsored by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India, NSS (GOI) Regional Centre, New Delhi.
The camp held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS) McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh from 1st - 10th November, 2022.
The objective of the camp was to infuse the sense of love towards the various regions of India and to undertake adventurous activities like trekking, mountaineering, para-gliding and basic skiing for the NSS volunteers. The camp also aims at improvement of physical and mental strength of students.
There were 40 NSS volunteers from different colleges of Haryana & Chandigarh. The participating colleges were Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon (representative college of M.D. University, Rohtak), CDLU-Sirsa, GJUS&T- Hisar, CBLU- Bhiwani, Ch. Rambir Singh University-Jind, Central University of Haryana CBLU-Bhiwani, I.G. University- Meerpur Rewari, BPSMVV- Sonepat and CCSHAU-Hisar.
Day 1:
Inaugurating the camp Dr. Anuja Awasthi (Director ABVIMAS McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh) stated the importance of Physical and mental fitness for NSS Volunteers. She further introduced ABVIMAS (Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports) and the facilities provided for the youth. She also shared her amazing experience of 45 years, difficulties faced as a mountaineering climber and other life experiences.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors Ms. Kiran, Mr. Piyush Awasthi and Mr. Mastram Kapoor, the volunteers performed various activities like trekking, wall climbing, rappelling, river-crossing, etc. Volunteers also had an interactive session with the Army Officers, which shared their knowledge and experience with the students. In addition to this, a series of lectures on disaster management, mountain hazard, trekking, mountain manners, camping, tent making, Health issues and cleanliness etc. were also conducted by the experts of the center.
Day 2:
Second day started with morning exercise. Next all the participants went for trekking to almost 6 kms followed by adventurous activity of wall climbing under the instructor’s instructions.
Day 3:
On day three, volunteers went for trekking at Bagsu Fall. Volunteers enjoyed a lot there and returned back to ABVIMAS.
Day 4:
Fourth day had an adventurous activity on rappelling with the help of rope and carabiner. During evening hours students had a theory lecture about different mountains and terrain area of India. Volunteers got to know about ropes and different types of knots used by mountaineers.
Day 5:
On fifth day, all the volunteers were allotted ransack and raincoats after completing trekking of 13 kilometers. Then all the volunteers had a theory session on camping and did adventurous activity of river crossing.
Day 6:
On the Sixth day, all volunteers completed trekking of 4.5 kms and reached to a small river and crossed it through different methods under the supervision of instructor.
Day 7:
On the Seventh day, volunteers did trekking of 20 kilometer to Kareri Lake, which is situated on the footsteps of Dhauladhar Range.
Day 8:
On the eighth day, volunteers reached institute at ABVIMAS McLeod Ganj by trekking of 13 kms.
Day 9:
On the 9th day badge distribution ceremony was conducted by the Director. Students performed dances of different states such as Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab participated in the camp.
Day 10:
On the tenth day, all the volunteers went for site seeing. They visited local famous temples as Chamunda Devi and others and also visited tea garden.
NSS Volunteers developed feeling of unity, team-spirit, physical fitness, discipline and patience through participating in various activities in the camp.
