"FAER McAfee Scholar Award Program 2017-18"

Three project teams and a faculty coordinator from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, participated in "FAER-McAfee Scholar Award Program 2017-18" organized by the Foundation for Advancement of Education and Research (FAER). The event held at M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru where students represented DCE college in top 26 teams selected for the finale on 14th and 15th June 2018.
FAER is a non-governmental, non-profit initiative open to all. Several educational institutions and industries are currently the associate partners of the foundation. Its main objective is to bring together industry leaders and academics and Introduction of new innovative programs, setting up of new institutions, development of inexpensive devices and kits for use by all.
On 14th June 2018, presentation and demonstration rounds were scheduled where each project team was given 10 minutes to deliver a project presentation which was followed by question and answer session.
Next session was dedicated to demonstration where students were required to display their products, designs and innovations in front of distinguished panel of judges. All three teams from DCE college, namely "Prosthetic Hand for Disabled", "Mobile Assistive App for Visually Impaired" and "Detection of Distracted Drivers using Machine learning" performed exceptionally well in both rounds. Results for the presentation and demonstration round were announced on 15th June 2018 during the AWARD CEREMONY in the august presence of several eminent personalities from industry and academics.
The project "MOBILE ASSISTIVE KIT FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED" comprising of team members Manan Bhardwaj, V. Sai Anila, Tamanna Sood and Naveen Daksh from IT-VII Semester under the guidance of Mrs. Neha Verma (Assistant Professor) secured 2nd Position in the competition and received certificates along with 75000 Rs cash prize.
Another Project from the college "DETECTION OF DISTRACTED DRIVERS USING MACHINE LEARNING" comprising of team members Deepanshu Sharma, Naman Magan, Palak Kakkar and Neha Singh guided by Mrs. Ashima Mehta Received Certificate of Merit as a token of appreciation towards their Innovative project idea and is invited for FAER 2018-2019 as a direct entry.
Special lectures by experts were organized during the Award Ceremony to motivate and inspire students for taking their innovation further and to use it for giving back to the society we live in.
Each project from the college was also found eligible for Project scholarship worth Rs. 5000. Lastly all the participants were provided with participation certificates.
Overall, the event was a great exposure and learning experience for students as they got an opportunity to showcase their innovative project work at a national platform.
