GUEST LECTURE ON “CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN INDIAN AIR FORCE”

ISTE Student Chapter, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organised an expert session for final year and third year the students of all the branches on 15th July 2016 on “CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN INDIAN AIR FORCE”. The honourable guests who gave their valuable time and motivated the students were D.K. Chaturvedi (Sergeant) and Nitin Gupta (Sergeant). The lecture was delivered by Sergeant Nitin Gupta of Air Force Station, Tughlakabad, New Delhi.He gave a glimpse of selection criteria, procedure followed during entrance, pay and allowances in IAF, information on rank structure and career progression in IAF.
The salient points covered during the lecture were:
1. Depending on qualification, the students can join various branches in the IAF. The Air Force has three branches with further sub - streams :
A. Flying Branch
1. Fighters
2. Transports
3. Helicopters
B. Technical Branch
1. Mechanical
2. Electronics
C. Ground Duty Branch
1. Administration
2. Accounts
3. Logistics
4. Education
5. Meteorology
2. The role of the IAF in Fighter, Transport, Electronic Warfare, Air Surveillance, R&D Operations.
3. The selection procedure starts with a written test conducted by UPSC for NDA & CDSE entries for flying Branch and AFCAT is conducted by the IAF for flying (SSC), Technical and Ground Duty Branches.
4. SSB exam pattern for stage - I testing comprises of Picture perception &Discussion test for all the entries qualifying written test. Those qualifying stage -I undergo stage - II testing which involves psychological test, group tests, interview and conference. Candidates who have applied for flying Branch will be administered by Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT).
5. Once shortlisted will be sent for medical examination either at
IAM, Bengaluru or AFCME, New Delhi. Finally, students will be detailed for the training.
6. Pay, Allowances and other perks offered by
IAF for selected candidates.
The session was motivational for the students and helped encourage debate within students about various challenges faced during the SSB test / interview. The overall talk gave students a detailed exposure on the career opportunities available in Air Force and for engineers in particular.
At the end of the session, Dr. Karanjit Singh had honored them with a memento.
