Rural and Swadeshi Startup Meet, i2s@2017
2nd December 2017
First year student Dev Chadha (20732) of CSIT Branch, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon participated in a National Competition on Rural and Swadeshi Startup Meet, i2S@2017, organized by UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN, on 2nd December, 2017 at IIT Delhi.
The objective of the event was to encourage people to come up with promising startups focused on rural and societal issues.
15 startups were screened from nearly 200 applicants for presentations before the jury members in the seminar hall. Most of the startups that had registered were innovative and were targeting some societal issues.
The selected proposal of student Dev Chadha was based on the polymer based purification of air. Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of a liquid relative to their own mass. Water-absorbing polymers, which are classified as hydrogels when cross-linked, absorb aqueous solutions through hydrogen bonding with water molecules. A SAP's ability to absorb water is a factor of the ionic concentration of the aqueous solution. The proposal cleared the first round of evaluation. The participants got a hands-on experience of their designs coming to life after being introduced to the relevant software and hardware.
The workshop was beneficial as it provided a platform to make connect between established and successful Entrepreneurs, Budding Entrepreneurs & the people who are planning to start any venture.
