One Day Conference on "Industry 4.0 readiness"

Mr. Rajesh Mattoo HOD, ME Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended one day conference on "Industry 4.0 readiness" at IITD-AIA FSM, IIT Delhi on 11th October 2019.
The theme of the programme was to understand readiness of Academia to adopt Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies. An exploratory meeting was convened by IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing (IAFSM) for academicians whose role is vitally important for the proliferation of the technological transformation in Industries.
In May 2017, IITD signed a formal partnership with the Automation Industry Association (AIA) for building the platform for innovative and smart manufacturing. The Government of India approved Common Engineering Facility Centre (CEFC) to be set up jointly by IIT Delhi and Automation Industry Association (AIA) to establish a Cyber Physical Lab for Smart Manufacturing Research at IIT-Delhi, Hauz Khas campus and a full-fledged Cyber Physical Factory at IIT-D Sonepat Campus.
The infrastructure facilities of the CEFC will be known as a SAMRTH (Smart Advanced Manufacturing and Rapid Transformation Hubs) Udyog.
The speakers of the Conference were: Mr. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, Mr. Sunil Jha ,Director of FSM, Mr. Anup Wadhwa, Director (AIA) and Mr. Kalyan Sridhar, Vice President & Country Manager, PTC.
Inaugurating the conference Mr. V. Ramgopal Rao, said, "IIT Delhi is a globally ranked Indian Institute of Eminence, well known for the quality of its faculty, alumni and students. We are now aggressively connecting with industries and working closely with startups in order to bring relevance to our research and impact the society".
The Foundation for Smart Manufacturing (FSM) lab set up (Cyber-Physical Lab), is supported by extensive skill building, MSME consultancy, multi-academia partnerships and research that will give a huge to the competitiveness of Indian Manufacturing. Its collaboration with PTC solutions ensures that the industry has access to the latest digital technologies to enable Indian manufacturing companies.
Mr. Sunil Jha believes, "FSM is a unique partnership amongst Indian Industry-Academia-Government. FSM is building competency across several Industry 4.0 tools and services and developing affordable engagement services to accelerate the digital transformation and growth of Indian manufacturers".
IIT Delhi plays an important role in this collaboration as they are enabling students with the right skill set. Both discrete and process industries are assured that they have access to the right skill set that can enable them to become more innovative and efficient.
Anup Wadhwa, outlined, "AIA have brought in 'best-in-class' companies that serve both the discrete and process industries. AIA well poised to integrate a full array of technologies; comprising of Smart Sensing, Factory Floor Actuators and Controllers, and Industrial Software and Communication platforms".
The collaboration between FSM and Automation Industry Association (AIA) has helped bridge the gap between the manufacturing industry and access to the technologies that will guide them in the right direction towards becoming globally competitive.
Kalyan Sridhar, Vice President & Country Manager, PTC further corroborates, "The collaboration ensures, India is set to be the 5th Largest Manufacturing Country by 2020.
