Session on Dos and Don'ts for GD Rounds

The CSI Student Chapter of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, in collaboration with Nextgen Ventures Limited., Gurgaon, organized one-day session on "Dos and Don’ts for GD Rounds" for final-year students from the IT, CSIT, and ECS Departments on October 12, 2022. The session aimed to equip students with the necessary skills for successful group discussions and job interviews, which are crucial for their professional development.
The session was conducted by Ms. Pratima Goswami, a soft skills trainer and faculty member at Nextgen Ventures Limited.
The primary goal of the session was to prepare students for the world of work by offering guidance on how to excel in group discussions and interviews. Ms. Pratima Goswami started the session by explaining the key skills evaluated during group discussions, such as communication, group interaction, listening, leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, and subject knowledge. She emphasized that group discussions assess how well students interact with others, how they present their views, and their ability to collaborate in a team setting.
To help students excel in group discussions, Ms. Pratima Goswami provided several tips. She encouraged students to take the initiative and start the discussion, as it signals confidence to the interviewer. She also stressed maintaining eye contact, being polite and respectful toward other participants, and listening carefully to others' opinions without interrupting. Furthermore, she advised students to keep their body language positive by being aware of their posture, gestures, and facial expressions. Active participation and a confident approach were key components of successful group discussions.
In the second half of the session, Ms. Pratima Goswami focused on job interviews. She explained the importance of research about the employer and common interview questions. She also offered practical advice on interview attire, stressing the importance of wearing formal, ironed clothes and avoiding excessive jewelry or strong fragrances. Body language, including eye contact, posture, and a firm handshake, was also highlighted as essential for creating a positive impression during interviews.
Overall, the session provided students with practical knowledge and strategies for excelling in group discussions and job interviews. It enhanced their understanding of what to expect in the professional world and gave them the tools to handle interviews with confidence and clarity.
