e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) : 2 Day's workshop on "Introduction to Robotics"
10th - 11th June 2022
Dr. R. Dheivanai (Associate Professor, EEE), Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram attended e-Yantra two day’s workshop on "Introduction to Robotics" held at IIT Bombay from 10th - 11th June 2022.
The objective of the workshop was to give knowledge to participants Fire Bird V robot which is based on AVR microcontroller and Programming
Day 1: 10th June 2022
The workshop was started with inauguration – lighting of Lamp. Then Prof. Dr. Kavi Arya organizer of the e-Yantra workshop has given an overview of e- Yantra. Then e-Yantra team Members introduced Fire Bird V Robot. This is a Robotic Research Platform and it provides excellent environment for experimentation, development of algorithm and testing. Its modular architecture is permitting user to control this by using multiple processors like 8051, AVR and ARM 7. E-Yantra team have provided each college with a Kit of ATMEGA2560 along with its accessories
Then Introduction of AVR Micro-controller was done by one of the e-Yantra team member. In the session, the topics covered were evolution of micro-controller. For the topic, participants have used ATMEGA2560 micro-controller. The parts of Fire Bird V robot was identified by participants with the help of team.
In the afternoon session, hands on practice were begun by writing the code in embedded C programming. With the use of Kit and Interfacing cable first participants did a simple experiment of ON and OFF of Beep sound of buzzer in the robot for about I ms delay. After writing the code, participants have interfaced with STK cable with their Laptop and Fire Bird robot kit and completed successfully the first experiment. Likewise, participants have done the second experiment of simple motion control using I/O ports.
Next participants performed 3rd experiment of controlling the velocity of robot using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The experiment was extended to make a run of robot in the path of square and circle as 4th experiment. The team members have helped each participants, to run the robot as per the experiment.
Day 2: 11th June 2022
In second session participants have learnt about interfacing of LCD – Liquid crystal display. Participants did the experiment along with theoretical session as well hands on practice. After this we went for short tea break. Then the session was started with ADC - Analog to Digital conversion. In the session participants have learnt about white line sensors and its interfacing. After the interfacing of IR – infra red range finder sensor was also done. The session was about how the robot is made to run on specific white line. E-Yantra team have provided white line and black line chart paper along with the interfacing kit and the robot. Everyone has to run their robot in the white line without any deviation. The program was written as per the requirement and interfaced with the Laptop, and then everyone got succeeded in the experiment.
Next session was started up with the topic Interrupts. Participants have learnt the theory related to interrupts and closed loop control of robot using position encoders. The session is about, how participants can make the exact square path follow up of robot with accuracy and without any approximation or trial and error method. Later participants have tried the experiment of position encoders to locate the position of white line following of the robot.
At last participants came to concluding part, the valediction ceremony was started. Prof. Dr. Kavi Arya has issued the certificates to all the participants. All the participants are requested to complete both feedback and quiz within 8 PM.
In the concluding session, Prof. Kavi Arya has said, each college has to set up / modernise the eLSI – e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative and it is necessary to build e-Yantra society with students community and one faculty mentor They have planned to arrange more guest speakers, competitions, MoU’s with the college, Industry tie-ups and initiating start-ups by providing solution to the problems faced by the industries and so on. Necessary guidelines will be given to create e-Yantra society in future.
