SAEINDIA AERODESIGN CHALLENGE 2019
19th - 21st July 2019
2 teams (DISRUPTER, KAMIKAZE) consisting of 7 students each from Dronacharya College of Engineering, were selected for the final round of SAEINDIA AERO DESIGN CHALLENGE 2019 held between 19th - 21st July 2019. Mr. Poshan Sahu and Mr. Manish Mishra Assistant Professor ME Department accompanied the students.
Aero Design Challenge 2019 was intended to provide undergraduate and graduate engineering students with a real-life engineering challenge. It has been designed to provide exposure to the kinds of situations that engineers face in their real-life work environment. Each team is required to conceive, design and develop a prototype of fixed wing UAV meeting the mission requirements. First and foremost a design competition, students will find themselves performing trade studies and making compromises to arrive at a design solution that will optimally meet the mission requirements while still conforming to the configuration limitations.
The competition was held in 3 stages. In first stage Mr. Manish along with 4 members from each team successfully attended the workshop from 22nd December 2018 - 14th Jan 2019 at Hyderabad. The second stage was the qualifier round in which each team has to submit the design report of their Aircraft before 10th April 2019. 3 teams from DCE, Gurgaon submitted their design reports before 8th April 2019. Out of 3 teams 2 team qualified for the third and final round which was scheduled between 19th - 21st July 2019 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Chennai,
Day 1 (19th July):-
Teams reached at SRM campus. Team captain along with team members and faculty members registered their teams. Teams were provided Identity cards. Then technical presentation of the design report was submitted by all the participants. Both the teams of DCE gave their presentations. Then teams had their Technical inspection of the aircraft. Inspection team from SRM Chennai inspected whole project. They measured the dimensions, weight, pay load, electronic components like battery, motor etc. both teams qualified this around.
Day 2 (20th July):-
On the second day teams had flight round. Students along with their projects were taken to a ground where the flight round was scheduled. Judges tested the weight & CG of the aircraft it was fine then the aircraft was taken for flight.
Day 3 (21st July) :-
Last day was the closing ceremony of the challenge. Captain of the teams were given certificate of participation for all the team members.
It was a great experience for all the students. They had a great exposure there and gained knowledge from the participants from all over the country.
