North Zone Pre-Republic Day Camp at Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur

Shruti Yadav (25171, CSE Dept.) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram participated in the North Zone Pre-Republic Day Camp, held at Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur, from 14th - 23rd October, 2024. The prestigious event brought together NSS volunteers from various states and union territories to prepare for the Republic Day parade and engage in cultural and social activities. A contingent of 34 dedicated NSS volunteers (08 from Gurugram University), led by Dr. Anupam Dalal (NSS Program Officer), represented the Haryana State at this prestigious event.
The camp was a transformative experience for the participating volunteers and offered a unique blend of cultural exchange, skill development, and national pride. Key highlights of the camp included:
- Inauguration and Welcome Address:The camp commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony, where dignitaries from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports addressed the participants.
- Cultural Exchanges:Volunteers from different states showcased their unique cultural heritage through dance, music, and traditional attire.
- Skill Development Workshops:Participants underwent rigorous training in marching, drill, and other parade-related skills. They also received training in cultural performances, yoga, and first aid.
- Leadership Development:Workshops on leadership, teamwork, and time management were conducted to enhance the volunteers' leadership skills.
- Social Service Activities:Volunteers engaged in community service initiatives, such as cleaning drives and awareness campaigns.
- Selection Process:Rigorous selection processes were conducted to identify the best volunteers for the Republic Day parade.
(15th October 2024): Inauguration and Introduction
On October 15th, the inauguration and introduction of the event set a vibrant tone with a warm welcome address by the camp organizers, including Dr. Sudhir Verma (VGU NSS Coordinator). Dr. S.P. Bhatnagar (Regional Director of Rajasthan) added prominence to the event.
The registration process was efficiently organized, ensuring a smooth start for participants from various states. The day witnessed a cultural extravaganza, with mesmerizing performances by participants showcasing the diversity and richness of their respective traditions. Ice-breaking sessions and team-building activities followed, fostering camaraderie and collaboration among attendees, creating an atmosphere of unity and enthusiasm to mark the beginning of the camp.

On October 16, 2024, the second day of the event commenced with great enthusiasm and a packed schedule. The day began at the crack of dawn with a Prabhat Feri, where 200 volunteers from different states came together for a march at 4 a.m., reflecting a spirit of unity and discipline. Following this, a refreshing Yoga and Exercise session was conducted at 6 a.m., promoting physical fitness and mindfulness among participants. A wholesome breakfast at 7:30 a.m. energized everyone for the day ahead.
The morning session on Cybersecurity, led by Mr. Arpit Dubey, a dedicated volunteer from Chandigarh, was a highlight. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., intensive training sessions, including drill practice and parade rehearsals, were conducted, focusing on discipline, teamwork, and coordination. These activities instilled a sense of unity and pride among the volunteers while preparing them for their responsibilities. The day also featured cultural performances representing the states of Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Leh, and Ladakh, celebrating the region's diverse traditions and vibrant heritage.
The afternoon sessions were equally engaging and informative. The first session, conducted by Dr. Shilpa Rao (Head of the Law Department at VGU), marked the observance of World Food Day. Dr. Rao highlighted global challenges related to food security, the significance of sustainable practices, and ways individuals can contribute to combating hunger. The second session focused on Gender Sensitization, led by Pushpa Mai (Nai Bhor Sanstha.) This session encouraged open discussions on gender equality, societal biases, and fostering inclusivity, leaving participants with valuable perspectives.
The day concluded with an evening cultural session, graced by the presence of Mr. Neeraj Kapoor, IAS, Secretary of the Youth and Sports Board, Government of Rajasthan. Volunteers showcased their talents in dance, music, and folk performances, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of their respective states. In parallel, workshops on leadership, teamwork, and time management equipped participants with essential life skills, empowering them to be effective leaders and change-makers.

The states of Punjab and Delhi, carried forward the spirit of collaboration and learning on the fourth day of the camp. The day began at 4 a.m. with a Prabhat Feri, where all 200 volunteers united for a march. This was followed by an invigorating Yoga and Exercise session at 6 a.m., fostering physical and mental well-being among the participants. A hearty breakfast was served between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., setting the stage for an active day ahead.
From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the volunteers engaged in intensive training and rehearsals, which included drill practice and parade preparations. After the rigorous morning activities, a lunch break from 12:30 to 1:30 provided an opportunity for relaxation and re-energizing.
The afternoon session focused on a significant theme: Ethics that an NSS Volunteer Should Follow, Especially in the Context of Indian Values. Delivered by Mr. Somkant (Secretary of the HSS Foundation), the session throwed light upon the principles and moral responsibilities that NSS volunteers should embody. The session was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Bhuvnesh Jain (Director of NYKS, Jaipur), whose insights added depth and significance to the discussion.
The day concluded on a high note with a cultural session, where participants showcased their diverse talents through performances that celebrated the unique traditions of Punjab and Delhi.

On October 18, 2024, the camp celebrated the vibrant culture and contributions of Rajasthan. The day began with a Prabhat Feri at 4 a.m., as 200 volunteers from across states marched together, fostering unity and mutual respect. This was followed by a revitalizing Yoga and Exercise session at 6 a.m., ensuring participants started their day with focus and energy. After a nourishing breakfast served between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., the volunteers prepared for an action-packed day ahead.
The morning from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. was dedicated to intensive training and rehearsals, featuring drill practice and parade preparations. The afternoon session, titled "My Bharat", was the highlight of the day. Led by Mr. S.P. Bhatnagar, Regional Director of NSS, Rajasthan, the session explored the essence of India, its rich history, cultural diversity, and the role of NSS in nation-building.
The day culminated in a grand cultural session, celebrating the spirit of Rajasthan. The event was graced by esteemed guests, including State Awardee Volunteers, State RD Volunteers, State Awardee Program Officers, and State RD Program Officers.

Haryana State carried forward the spirit of collaboration and learning on the sixth day of the camp. The camp took a fascinating turn as the participants explored the vibrant city of Jaipur. The Jaipur visit offered the volunteers an opportunity to explore iconic landmarks, immerse themselves in the local heritage, and appreciate the architectural marvels that define Jaipur.
The evening unfolded with a lively cultural session, which celebrated the traditions and talents of Haryana. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Aman Choudhary (RAS Officer and Ex-RD NSS Volunteer) who served as the guest of honor. Mr. Choudhary’s journey from being an NSS volunteer to becoming a respected officer inspired the attendees.
(20th - 21st October 2024)
On October 20th and 21st, 2024, the camp entered its most critical and intense phase with the Selection Trials for the prestigious Republic Day parade contingent and cultural showcases. These two days were marked by rigorous evaluations of the participants’ discipline, skills, and cultural talents, reflecting their hard work and dedication throughout the camp.
The trials began with a comprehensive selection process for the Republic Day parade contingent, where volunteers underwent rigorous drills and assessments. Their precision, coordination, and ability to execute parade formations were meticulously observed by the Parade Selection Committee. The committee included eminent officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, such as Mr. Girdhar Upadhaya (Regional Director of NSS, Patna), Mr. Ramakrishna (Regional Director of NSS, Hyderabad), and Ms. Rakshita (Caretaker of the NCC Air Wing, VGU.) Their expert judgment ensured that only the most dedicated and skilled volunteers were chosen to represent the NSS at the national event.
Simultaneously, the Cultural Selection Committee, also led by distinguished members, assessed the participants' artistic abilities and performances. This committee comprised Mr. Girdhar Upadhaya, Mr. Ramakrishna, and Mr. Rahul Trivedi, a cultural expert from VGU. The trials concluded with a deep sense of achievement and camaraderie among the volunteers.

The morning saw an array of sports activities, including Kabaddi, Volleyball, and Tug-of-War, where participants showcased their athletic skills and competitive spirit. The sports activities were observed by esteemed officials from the Government of India, Mr. Suraj and Mr. Rakesh Chandra, (Both Section Officers from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs), who lauded the enthusiasm and discipline displayed by the participants.

On October 23, 2024, the camp reached its grand finale with the Valedictory Ceremony, marking the conclusion of an enriching and eventful journey. The ceremony began with heartfelt speeches by the camp organizers, acknowledging the dedication and efforts of the volunteers over the past days. The Guest of Honor, Dr. Kailash Pahadia, Secretary of the Youth Board, Government of Rajasthan, graced the occasion, adding significance to the event. In his address, Dr. Pahadia commended the volunteers for their unwavering commitment to the values of NSS and their role in fostering unity and cultural exchange. The highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of certificates, recognizing the hard work, talent, and participation of the volunteers. The event concluded with a farewell ceremony, filled with emotional goodbyes and expressions of gratitude.
