Webinar on English Enhancement

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized a webinar on “English Enhancement” for 6^th semester students of CSE/CSIT/IT/ECE/ME/CIVIL Department on 7^th June 2021. Ms. Anjali Bhatia, Founder of TUWA was the eminent speaker of the webinar.

The objective of the webinar was to enhance the students command over a language.

Ms. Anjali began the webinar and discussed the importance of English language competence in the professional career of an engineer. She explained as most of the assumptions in engineering are taught in English, it requires to have good English communication proficiency. For the engineering students all the lectures, tutorials, labs, project reports and papers are in English Language. Further she discussed during the placement process in interviews, GD’s, it is it is mandatory to achieve mastery in English proficiency. She told among the scientists, technologists and business experts from culturally and linguistically different communities, English has become the prime language for communication. So, being an engineer requires co-operating and communicating with different people from different part of the world.

Later she also discussed some techniques to enhance the English Language. These include

1. Be concise. In English we prefer shorter sentences and in technical English this is even more important. The ideas we are trying to communicate are often complex and so we need the language to be as clear as possible to avoid any confusion.
2. Be precise. British English has a reputation for being indirect, but when it comes to technical writing accuracy is key. Eliminate any ambiguity by using the active voice so it is clear who is doing what.
3. Structure your explanation clearly.
4. Familiarize yourself with the wide range of resources that are available to translate tricky technical vocabulary. 

The webinar was knowledgeable for the students.
