CELEBRATION OF THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon celebrated the Second International Yoga Day (IYD) on 21st June 2016.On this auspicious day over 250 volunteers including faculty members and students from the college practiced Yoga under the able mentorship of Mrs. Indu Sharma, Member Rajasthan Swasthya Yoga Parishad.
Inaugurating the Yoga Day celebrations, the Principal Prof. (Dr.) Karanjit Singh shared the words of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He reiterated that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient traditions. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well - being. It is undoubtedly a scientific process leading to our physical, mental and spiritual development. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.
Thereafter Dr. Karanjit Singh introduced Mrs. Indu Sharma to the participants. Currently she is pursuing PhD in Yoga from Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phoole University Jaipur. With regards to Yoga and Naturopathy Mrs. Sharma has doneYCC (Yoga Certificate Course) and YTTC ( Yoga Teachers Training Course). She has done her NDDY (Diploma in Yoga and Diploma in Naturopathy) from Vinobha Ashram Vadodara. She is currently an honorary member ofRajasthan Swasthya Yoga Parishad working at Yoga Bhawan Yoga and Naturopathy Centre Jaipur.
The practice cum training session begun at 8.30 AM with a brief mention by Mrs. Indu Sharma about the initiatives taken by Ministry of AYUSH, the significance of Astang Yoga and the celebrations. She explained the true meaning of being healthy and the routine of human beings to include correct Aahar, Vihaar and Karya. The session begun with a Vandana (prayer recital) by Mrs. Indu Sharma. This was followed by a warmup session comprising on the spot jogging, foot movements etc. While conducting the warming up session Mrs. Sharma gave out the importance of this mandatory activity before practicing the asanas. Thereafter under her guidance and demonstrations, volunteers practiced various asanas as per the protocols given by the Ministry of AYUSH. This included standing, sitting, prone and spine postures followed byShavasna. The benefits of practicing each of the asanas and contraindications were mentioned while performing each one of them. Towards the end Anulom Vilom and Bhramri Pranayam was conducted which was so rejuvenating for the senses.
Mrs. Indu Sharma concluded the session with Omkar chanting and a resolution for the well - being of mankind and a prayer to the almighty to bless the participants with the day to be one of the most auspicious day in their lives.
After the session concluded at 08.30 AM, Prof. (Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav delivered a vote of thanks. Thereafter the participants interacted with Mrs. Indu Sharma to clear their individual problems and obtained valuable tips and suggestions related to health. The celebrations culminated with a light satvik breakfast comprising pohas, veg sandwichesand green tea.
It was indeed a memorable day in the life of most of the participants who were exposed first time to this wonderful practice. The feedback given by most of them was that such sessions should be conducted more often in future.
