International Women's Day Celebration
8th March 2020
International Women's Day is a global celebration that commemorates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender parity and advocating for women's rights. On the 8th March, 2020, the Women Development Cell (WDC) of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized “International Women’s Day” to celebrate and honor the contributions of women in various fields. The theme for celebration was #EachforEqual (Collective Individualism). The event was held at the college campus and 80 students along with 40 faculty members participated in the celebration. The Women Development Cell, known for its commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality, organized a series of enlightening and empowering activities that aimed to raise awareness about women's issues and inspire participants.
The event started with the illuminated speech by Dr. Isha Malhotra (Principal-DCE, Gurugram) focusing on women's representation and participation in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). She brought forth important insights on breaking gender stereotypes, fostering inclusivity, and encouraging more women to pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated domains. The event succeeded in raising awareness about gender equality, providing valuable insights into the experiences of successful women, and equipping attendees with skills to navigate the challenges they might face.
The celebration was not just a one-day affair; it planted seeds for ongoing initiatives and conversations surrounding women's empowerment. Students left the event feeling inspired, motivated, and more aware of the need to collectively strive for a more equitable and inclusive society.
