2nd February 2021
NSS Unit of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized an online awareness session on “Breast Cancer: Its Symptoms and Cure” on 2nd February, 2021. 40 students and 8 faculty members attended the session on Microsoft Teams.
Prof. Anupam Dalal (NSS Coordinator) was the keynote speaker of the awareness program. Speaking about the deadly disease, she said, Breast Cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the cells of the breast. It is the most common cancer among women worldwide. However, the good news is that when breast cancer is detected early, the chances of successful treatment and survival increase significantly. Furthermore, she highlighted some key points regarding Breast Cancer symptoms and cure.
She explained the method of self-examination. A lump in the breast or armpit, changes in the breast's size, shape or skin texture, discharge from the nipple, or a rash or swelling can be warning signs of breast cancer. If any of these symptoms are present, it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible. She also told about Mammograms which is a medical facility available at hospitals to detect any lump in the breast.
Then she discussed about the risk factors that can increase a person's chance of developing breast cancer, including age, family history, hormonal factors, obesity, alcohol consumption, and exposure to certain chemicals.
Treatment for breast cancer depends on several factors, including the type and stage of cancer, as well as the individual's overall health. Treatment may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or targeted therapy.
Some ways to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer include maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, limiting alcohol consumption, and avoiding exposure to chemicals and radiation.
Students were highly benefitted from the session and also asked their doubts with the speaker.
