Bharati - Nari to Narayani: National Convention of Women Thought Leaders

Dr. Vaishali Dixit (Associate Professor, APS) faculty at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram, attended the “Bharati – Nari to Narayani: National Convention of Women Thought Leaders”, held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on 7th–8thMarch 2026, onthe occasion ofInternational Women’s Day. The convention focused on women’s empowerment, highlighting the transformation of “Nari” (woman as silent strength) into “Narayani” (a strategic and powerful force). Rooted in Indian philosophical thought, the event emphasized the pivotal role of women in leadership, social transformation, and nation-building.
The convention brought together women scholars, professionals, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and thought leaders from across the country. Discussions revolved around education, skill development, workplace challenges, cultural heritage, and self-reliance, with an aim to empower women to actively contribute to India’s growth and development. Participants praised the convention as a platform for collaborative progress and meaningful dialogue.
The event was presided over by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who delivered an inspiring address on women-led development and inclusive progress. Other distinguished attendees included Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, and prominent speakers such as Smt. Lakshmi Puri, former UN Assistant Secretary-General, and Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The convention included a wide range of sessions, covering ancient knowledge traditions, contemporary policies for women’s empowerment, and strategies for fostering confidence and leadership among women. Notable initiatives highlighted included Kalari martial arts training for over 15,000 girls through the “Shakti” program, promoting self-defence and confidence. Government schemes such as “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” and “Mission Shakti” were also emphasized for their role in women’s education, safety, and self-reliance.
The convention centered around eight core themes, each reflecting a dimension of women’s empowerment. Vidya (Knowledge as Power) emphasized access to higher education, career pathways, and leadership opportunities. Shakti (Atmanirbharata – Self-Reliance) focused on financial literacy, vocational training, and economic independence. Mukti (Liberating the Self) addressed self-awareness, psychological growth, and social awakening, highlighting challenges like poverty and violence. Chetna (The She Energy) promoted workplace equality, merit-based growth, and leadership participation. Prakriti (Nature to Nurture) emphasized supportive ecosystems for menstruation, maternity, and childcare. Sanskriti (Strengthening Roots) encouraged pride in cultural traditions, critical thinking, and moral values. Siddhi (Stories of Success) celebrated women’s often unseen contributions to families and communities. Finally, Kriti (Plan of Action) focused on translating discussions into policy recommendations and national networks for women’s leadership.
The Bharati – Nari to Narayani National Convention of Women Thought Leaders was recognized as a significant platform for dialogue, inspiration, and collaboration. The event reinforced the importance of education, leadership, cultural awareness, and economic empowerment for women and contributed to the vision of building a strong, inclusive, and progressive nation led by empowered women.
